For years before Bluedust existed, I worked in ground operations for Jet Airways at Ahmedabad airport. Different roles, same lesson: nobody remembers the flight that went well. They remember the small things that went wrong on the ground before it took off. A missed connection. A bag that didn’t make it. A gate that changed twice with no announcement. Stand on that tarmac long enough and you learn that a trip was never really about the destination. It’s about who’s handling the ground underneath it.
That lesson followed me into travel. It’s the reason Bluedust runs the way it does: private vehicles, a real person on call, nothing handed off to a subcontractor we’ve never met.
But the real reason I can say that with a straight face isn’t the airport years. It’s what I did afterwards. I travelled Japan myself, properly. Not a long weekend in Tokyo to say I’d been, but Tokyo down to Nagasaki, on the Shinkansen and the small local lines in between: the Sagano Romantic Train through the Arashiyama hills, Todai-ji and its deer in Nara, the floating torii at Miyajima, the Peace Park in Nagasaki, and Mt. Fuji from Kawaguchiko on a day the mountain refused to come out from behind the clouds, so I ate ice cream and waited anyway.
Somewhere in there I also walked stretches of the Kumano Kodo, the old pilgrim trail through the mountains of the Kii Peninsula and a UNESCO World Heritage route. Not to collect a line for a website, but because if I’m going to tell an Ahmedabad family where to go in Japan, I want to have stood there first.
હું ગુજરાતી છું, અમદાવાદનો છું — અને જાપાન મેં જાતે ફર્યું છે.
If this is your first trip
Someone who has done the walking has already found the parts worth your time and filtered out the ones that aren’t: the temple that’s overrun by 11am, the “must-see” that isn’t, the meal that looks nothing like what a vegetarian Gujarati family needs.
If you’ve been before
I can point you past the Golden Route. Nagasaki. Miyajima at low tide. The Kii mountains. Because I’ve been there myself, not read about it in a brochure the week before your trip.
I still live in Ahmedabad. It’s home, and it always will be. But somewhere on that trip, I couldn’t tell you the exact station, I found the second thing I wanted to spend my working life on. Bluedust is that. If you’d like to talk it through, message me on WhatsApp, in Gujarati or Hindi if that’s easier.
